GOD AT WORK STORIES

By Roger Fobbe

When we are on the wrong road, it can take trauma and pain to get on the right path. This can happen on the road to Damascus (see Paul’s story in Acts), and even on the roads around Buffalo!  The result can become a life of discipleship.

I was raised in a good Catholic home with a lot of love.  My dad was killed when I was eleven.  My mom was six months pregnant with my sister.  My sister never got to see her dad.

Three years later my brother died at the age of fourteen.  I was so angry at God, asking him why did you take my brother when just a couple of years before you took my dad?

After graduating from high school, I got a job at the Maple Lake lumber yard and from there I went to work at the veneer plant in Buffalo.  I was there until I got drafted into the service.

After one year in the States I was sent to Vietnam.  I landed down south and stayed there for about three months until they sent me up to the D.M.Z.  While I was at the D.M.Z., my unit got sent to a place called the rock pile.  We were there for a couple of months until they sent us back to the home base.  I can’t remember how long we were gone from the rock pile, but the unit that replaced us got overrun and everyone there was killed.  The Lord had spared me by moving my unit to a different location.
